At LJ Groundworks & Landscaping, I am fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety for every project. The wellbeing of my clients, staff, subcontractors, site visitors, and the public is essential. I believe all accidents and incidents are preventable with careful planning, safe practices, and ongoing training.

1. Policy Objectives

  • Prevent accidents, injuries, and ill health at work

  • Comply fully with all UK health and safety laws and regulations

  • Promote a positive safety culture among staff and contractors

  • Protect clients, visitors, and members of the public

2. Management Commitment

​

  • I proactively assess risks before starting each project—no matter how big or small.

  • All work activities are planned with health and safety as the top priority.

  • Insurance is maintained to cover public and employer’s liability risks.

3. Responsibilities

​

  • I am responsible for actively managing health and safety standards across all worksites.

  • Subcontractors are required to follow all health and safety procedures.

  • All staff and site visitors must adhere to site safety rules and wear appropriate protective equipment where required.

4. Training & Supervision

​

  • All staff and contractors receive health and safety training relevant to their roles (e.g., manual handling, equipment use, site hazards).

  • Specific training is provided for hazardous activities and machinery use.

  • Supervisors ensure that best practices are followed and unsafe behaviour is addressed.

5. Risk Assessments & Safe Systems

​

  • Every project includes a site-specific risk assessment, identifying hazards and preventive measures.

  • Safe working methods (method statements) are implemented for high-risk activities.

  • Safety signage is displayed as needed.

​

6. Site Safety & Emergency Procedures

​

  • Sites are kept tidy, secure, and free from unnecessary hazards.

  • Access routes are maintained for emergency services.

  • First aid kits are available on site at all times.

  • Fire safety measures are considered for all worksites.

  • Emergency procedures are briefed to all site staff and contractors.

7. Equipment & Materials

​

  • All tools and machinery are regularly inspected and maintained.

  • Unsafe equipment is removed or repaired promptly.

  • Protective clothing and safety equipment are provided and mandatory for high-risk tasks.

8. Reporting & Investigation

​

  • All accidents, incidents, and near-misses must be reported immediately.

  • Investigations are carried out to identify root causes and corrective actions.

  • Findings and improvements are shared with staff and regular updates are provided.

9. Continual Improvement

​

  • Policy and procedures are reviewed annually, or after any serious incident.

  • Feedback from site operatives or clients is welcomed and used to guide improvements.

10. Client & Public Protection

​

  • Work areas are clearly marked and secured to prevent unauthorised access.

  • Information about site risks is shared with clients before work begins.

  • Any specific client concerns are addressed proactively.
